Wednesday is the new Thursday

Fun things to make plans to do this week… besides visiting Blackbird and Boulevard and Bitter End, of course…

Chicago’s Green City Market opens today for the 2007 season and their motto is “Know Your Food, Know Your Farmer.” The market is open every Wednesday and Saturday through Halloween, except 4th of July. Opening day features a cooking demonstration by George Bumbaris and Sarah Stegner of Prairie Grass Cafe. Eat your veggies today, since tomorrow you’re going to be eating popcorn, peanuts and cotton candy.

Developed by the Ontario Science Centre in Canada, “Circus! Science Under the Big Top” is now at UC Berkeley’s Lawrence Hall of Science. With more 5,000 square feet of exhibits, you can cover the obvious circus things like tightropes, juggling and sword-swallowing (and the physics behind them) — or, you can focus on the world of the circus animals. If you’re brave enough, you can even learn what is really in a corn dog. Just keep it to yourself and please pass the ketchup.

Dust off your bike seat and get inspired by five pros’ favorite hometown rides in Utah, California, Oregon and South Carolina. What? You’re not up to Levi’s choice of a 115-mile route? Well now, those few miles to work doesn’t seem so far, so keep your dust rag out and join in Bike to Work Day. You will have a new appreciation for your desk chair and you can stop complaining about gas prices too.

The Bay Area Maker Faire is on this weekend at the San Mateo Expo Center, and there is something for everyone at this two-day event. It’s for families, geeks, DIYers and all artsy-craftsy kinds of people. Expect 200,000 square feet, 40,000 fans, the Swap-O-Rama-Rama Fashion Show and even Steve Wozniak.

Sunset’s Celebration Weekend started as their centennial birthday celebration in 1998 and is held on the magazine’s grounds in Menlo Park, CA. There will be food, wine and microbrews, home, garden and travel activities. You can also tour their 2007 Summer Retreat home.

Renkoo helps you make plans with friends.
